Sortive is built on a privacy-first foundation. Your files stay on your Mac. We don't collect personal data through the app: the only information we collect from it is anonymous, aggregate usage counts — and only if you choose to share them.
Sortive runs entirely on your Mac. File routing, AI inference, and all processing happen locally. Your files, folder names, and activity history never leave your device.
Sortive connects to the internet only for routine tasks: downloading its AI model (once, and again only if you switch models), checking for app updates, and activating and periodically confirming your license. These requests are handled by our own servers and the providers we use to host the app, its AI model, and payments. They never contain your files, file names, folder names, or activity. Like any internet request, they reveal your IP address to the server that answers; Sortive does not collect or store it, and does not use these requests to identify or track you.
When the AI model is downloaded from our own servers, we keep a simple count of downloads for each model and version, with the date and time. The count contains no IP address, device ID, or anything else that could identify you.
To understand where users get stuck, Sortive can send a small number of anonymous, aggregate events to our own server. This is off by default and only enabled if you turn on "Share anonymous usage counts" in onboarding or Settings → Privacy.
When enabled, each event contains only: a usage stage (e.g. completing setup or sorting a file), the app version, and a rough range of how many files you have organised — never an exact count, never your file names, and never any identifier. Events are sent to our own server, not to any third party. There is no user ID, no session, and no way to link two events to the same person. You can turn this off at any time; once off, nothing is sent.
On this website (sortive.app) only, and only with your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visitors. IP addresses are anonymised, advertising features are disabled, and no data is shared with third parties beyond Google as our processor. You can change your consent at any time via the "Manage cookies" link in the footer.
We use one first-party cookie to remember your cookie preference. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics may set its own cookies. You can clear or manage these through your browser settings. Manage cookie preferences.
Purchases are handled by Polar.sh. Your name, email, and payment details are collected directly by Polar under their own privacy policy. We receive only a confirmation that a purchase was made. When you activate Sortive, and periodically afterwards, the app sends your license key to Polar to confirm it is valid. The only other thing sent is a random device ID that Sortive generates, so an activation is tied to one Mac. It is not derived from your hardware and contains no personal information.
